How To Cook Nigerian Beans Porridge

Today we are going to learn how to cook delicious Nigerian Beans Porridge.

As we all know, beans have a higher concentration of protein which is good for growing children and adults as well. Without much story let us see the required ingredients and items used in cooking Nigerian Beans Porridge before breaking down the cooking procedures.

Required Ingredients and Items

  • Beans (brown beans are sweeter than the white)
  • Palm Oil
  • Onions
  • Salt
  • Seasoning (Maggi)
  • Pepper
  • Crayfish
  • Plantain/ Potatoes/ Yam
  • Fish and Meat (optional)

How To Cook Beans Porridge

Grind the pepper and crayfish.

Cut the onions.

Peel, wash and cut the plantain or yam to your desired shape and size.

If using meat or fish; cook and set aside.

Select the beans and sieve out the unwanted particles in it such as stones and bean leaves.

Parboil the beans for about 3 minutes and wash away the water (dispose of the water properly because it omits an offensive odor when cold).

Pour clean water into the beans and rinse.

Put back the beans into the cooking pot and pour in the fish or meat water as well as some clean water to the level of the beans and start cooking, add more water when needed until the beans get soft.

Put the chopped yam/ plantain/Potato and cook until it gets soft.

Add the chopped onions.

Add little Maggi seasoning and salt taste.

Pour in enough oil, the ground crayfish, and pepper, cook for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Put the cooked meat or fish and cook further until everything is mixed up, stir properly and bring down the pot of beans porridge and serve.
